Gazprom leaves the gas tap half-open for Moldova

Moldovagaz confirmed the announcement made by the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development, Andrei Spînu, regarding the fact that from October 1st Gazprom will continue to deliver natural gas to Moldova, only in a smaller volume than stipulated in the signed contract.

According to Moldovagaz, the Russian giant Gazprom has partially confirmed the volumes of natural gas that will be delivered for the month of October. Thus, out of the 8.06 million m3 per day (for both banks), 5.7 million m3 per day were confirmed.

“In accordance with the contractual conditions with SAP “Gazprom”, for the current month of October, the delivery to the Republic of Moldova of 250 million cubic meters of natural gas, or 8.06 million cubic meters per day, including: 80 million cubic meters (2.58 million cubic meters per day) for consumers on the right bank of the Dniester; 170 million cubic meters (5.48 million cubic meters per day) for consumers on the left bank of the Dniester (“Tiraspoltransgaz”),” is stated in the Moldovagaz announcement.

Moldovagaz said that, according to the contract with “Gazprom”, annual capacities of 5.7 million cubic meters per day are reserved for “Moldovagaz”.

“The reserved capacities are sufficient to provide the country’s consumers with natural gas until the beginning of the heating season. Additional capacities to cover the demand for heating installations in the amount of 2.36 million cubic meters per day for both banks of the Dniester can be secured through daily auctions. Thus, SA “Moldovagaz” on September 30 sent the request to additionally reserve the necessary gas capacities on the RBP platform”, the institution’s announcement also states.

We remind you that from October 1st, the calculation formula for the purchase of natural gas is changing, which is why our country will buy gas from Gazprom for 1031 USD for a thousand cubic meters, but the price for the final consumer will remain at the amount of almost 30 lei, until the spring of next year, as announced by the director of Moldovagaz, Vadim Ceban. The reason is – covering the financial deviations to date.
