From 2025, Moldovan citizens will be able to travel to EU countries with an internal passport. About this, the director of the State Services Agency (SSA), Mircea Esanu, told Radio Moldova.
“We hope to issue from next year, but no later than March 2025, a new identity card – a citizen’s ID card that will fully comply with European requirements. They will also have an information carrier on them. The great advantage of the new identity cards is that in time, they will be sufficient for traveling, including within the European Union. The same is happening, for example, with Ukraine, with which two years ago a protocol was signed, according to which people with biometric ballots can cross the border,” Mircea Esanu said.
The government last amended identity cards, driver’s licenses, and vehicle registration certificates in 2015. These amendments are in line with the requirements of European standards and directives.
