Google Allocates $1 Million to Bolster Cybersecurity in Moldova

A $1 million support from Google.org, the philanthropic arm of Google, for strengthening cybersecurity in the country. This effort will be focused on building resilience against cyber threats and disinformation, targeting both civil society, government institutions, and the business environment. Marta Poslad, Director of Government Affairs and Public Policy at Google for Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), emphasized the importance of collaboration and expressed Google’s confidence in Moldova’s potential to thrive digitally.

“The grant from Google.org is one of the steps that demonstrate our commitment to working with local communities to bring positive changes to Moldova through technology and innovation,” said Marta Poslad.

Deputy Prime Minister Dumitru Alaiba highlighted that such partnerships are essential for Moldova’s progress and align with the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization’s vision for a robust and sustainable digital future. Google is providing one million dollars for Moldova. “The support from Google.org is a crucial step in strengthening our cyber resilience. It underscores our common commitment to using technology for the benefit of society and ensuring a safer digital space for all,” noted Dumitru Alaiba, Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization.

Google.org is supporting the Moldova Advancement Foundation to accelerate the development of the Moldova Cyber Academy initiative. This strategic grant includes curriculum development and comprehensive skills training, opening doors for entry-level opportunities in the cybersecurity sector. Additionally, through a philanthropic grant to INCO, Google.org will make Google career certificates accessible to educators in Moldova, especially those in remote areas with limited educational opportunities. The program includes personalized support to help educators successfully complete online courses and obtain professional certificates in high-demand technology fields.

In addition to this commitment, following the invasion of Ukraine, Google allocated 10 million dollars to combat harmful disinformation in the region. Furthermore, Google contributed 25 million euros to the European Media and Information Fund, highlighting the company’s commitment to promoting a safer and more informative online environment.
