Speaker Igor Grosu delivered a compelling address at the Conference of Speakers of the European Union, urging his counterparts to extend support to Moldova in its pursuit of democracy, modernization, and progress.
Grosu emphasized the intertwined destinies of Ukraine and Moldova, striving to break free from past imperial influences and forge paths toward freedom, peace, and prosperity. He expressed confidence in their joint efforts, acknowledging the challenges ahead but highlighting the importance of intelligence, patience, and perseverance in securing a peaceful and prosperous future for their nations.
“Support for Ukraine also means support for the Republic of Moldova, because our countries have decided to break away from the former empire and live in a free, peaceful, and prosperous world. It is our civilizational choice. I am sure that together we will succeed, it will not be easy, but with a lot of intelligence, patience, and perseverance we will make sure that our future and that of our children will be peaceful and prosperous,” said the President of the Parliament, Igor Grosu.

Addressing the pivotal year of 2024 for Moldova, Grosu underscored the significance of President Maia Sandu’s referendum initiative, to confirm the irreversibility of Moldova’s integration into the European Union. He cautioned against potential disinformation campaigns orchestrated by the Russian Federation to manipulate the outcome of the presidential elections and derail Moldova’s European trajectory.
Grosu highlighted the sophisticated tactics employed by Russia, leveraging modern techniques, including artificial intelligence and information channels, to sow misinformation, instigate panic, and sow discord among the populace. Despite these challenges, Grosu expressed confidence in Moldova’s resilience and determination to stay the course toward European integration.
The conference is from April 21st to April 24th, 2024, and is hosted at the Royal Palace of La Almudaina in Palma, Spain. With a focus on foreign policy and defense, the event convenes presidents of EU parliaments, European Parliament leaders, and candidate countries’ parliaments presidents.
