Henna Virkkunen, Executive Vice President for Technological Sovereignty, Security, and Democracy of the European Commission, will make her first visit to the Republic of Moldova on July 15. She will meet with President Maia Sandu, Prime Minister Dorin Recean, and Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization Doina Nistor to discuss democratic and digital resilience.
Presidential advisor Igor Zaharov confirmed to IPN that President Maia Sandu scheduled a meeting with Henna Virkkunen. During the meeting, “they will discuss topics such as cybersecurity, democracy, and the fight against disinformation.”
According to a press release from the EU Delegation in the Republic of Moldova, the European official will also meet with representatives of the Central Electoral Commission, the Audiovisual Council, and the Center for Strategic Communication and Combating Disinformation. “They will discuss efforts to combat disinformation and hybrid attacks.”

“The visit reflects the European Union’s commitment to support the Republic of Moldova in strengthening democracy, information security, and digital development. In this context, they will also discuss Moldova’s accession to the European ‘Roam like at home’ area,” the EU Delegation in Moldova announced.
