Her Majesty Margareta, Custodian of the Crown of Romania, congratulated Maia Sandu on her re-election as President of the Republic of Moldova.
“I extend my warmest congratulations on your re-election as President of the Republic of Moldova! It brings me great joy to know that you will continue to lead this ancient land on its European path. Like my predecessors, I am proud of the country that has again placed its trust and hope in you,” Her Majesty Margareta wrote.
She noted that Sandu’s re-election represents a victory for democracy and freedom – “This means so much for those who aspire to a stable and prosperous future for the Republic of Moldova. The Crown of Romania, with the Romanian spirit and national identity, has persevered despite challenges. I am confident that, although we are at the beginning of this journey and difficulties will arise, Romanians, wherever they are, will show that they are truly European.”

The second round of presidential elections took place on November 3 in the Republic of Moldova. Election officials have counted all votes cast in the second round. After processing diaspora votes, Maia Sandu leads with 55.33%, while her opponent, Alexandr Stoianoglo, received 44.67%, according to data from the Central Electoral Commission.
Approximately 1.69 million citizens participated in the November 3, 2024, runoff, with over 329,000 casting their votes abroad.
