High-Level Diplomatic Meetings Strengthen Moldova-Canada Ties: Commitment to Reforms, Security, and Bilateral Cooperation

President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, and the President of the Parliament, Igor Grosu, had separate meetings with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, Mélanie Joly, who is on a working visit to their country, according to TRIBUNA.

During the meeting with President Maia Sandu, she expressed gratitude for the increasingly close bilateral relationship and thanked the Canadian authorities for their support in the modernization process, implementation of reforms, and strengthening of institutions in the Republic of Moldova.

Maia Sandu emphasized Canada’s ongoing efforts in the fight against corruption, highlighting the importance of a united front against this phenomenon to maintain stability in the country.

The security situation in the region was also addressed, with Canada reaffirming its support for Ukraine and emphasizing the need for continued international support for Ukraine as a guarantee of peace in the Republic of Moldova and across the entire continent.

Simultaneously, the President of the Parliament, Igor Grosu, discussed with Mélanie Joly Canada’s sustained support for the European path of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine. Grosu expressed his gratitude for Canada’s involvement in imposing sanctions against Moldovan oligarchs, considering this action as evidence of progress in judicial reform and the fight against corruption.

The importance of bilateral cooperation in strengthening the national defense and security sector was highlighted, and officials discussed how to advance in this regard. Another topic discussed in both meetings was the Moldovan community in Canada, with an agreement to deepen cooperation for the benefit of citizens of both countries.

These meetings underscored the importance of Canada’s continued support for the Republic of Moldova and outlined directions for collaboration in various fields for the mutual benefit of both nations.
