How can information technologies influence life in the regions of Moldova? The answer to this question was found by girls and women from Balti and Comrat, who recently participated in two hackathons to identify innovative solutions for community development. Under the careful guidance of mentors with experience in the field, the ladies generated ideas for regional development projects in several key areas for the regions: information technologies, entrepreneurship, infrastructure and ecology. The ideas were presented to a jury, which decided that three of them would become winners and award them, wrties Diez.md.

A first for Comrat and Bălți, the regional hackathon gathered on the same platform 6 and respectively 4 teams, made up exclusively of girls and women. Showing social responsibility, the ladies accepted the challenge, and for three days they put their skills and talents to the test, to find useful ideas and bring change to the community where they live.

“Women’s Hackathon aims to create a platform that allows girls and women to showcase their skills and talents in finding solutions in significant sectors of socio-economic life. Women have a huge potential that is not yet sufficiently manifested in STEM. Currently, in Moldova, only 19% of women are employed in technical positions. The first Hackathon for women in the regions allows more girls and women to show their interest in ICT and technology”, Irina Grișca, Project Manager, organizer.
“Empowering Women Hub Networks” aims to impact equity, independence and create increased access to economic opportunities by promoting gender equality and empowering women through information technologies.
The project is implemented by IHUB/Seed Forum Moldova, in collaboration with UN Women, with the financial support of Sweden and USAID, in partnership with the “Tekwill” project.
