Civil society is calling for active involvement in shaping the European future of the Republic of Moldova. Daniela Vidaicu, Executive Director of the Soros Foundation Moldova, delivered this message during the “Reinvent Moldova 2.0” event organized by the Realitatea Media Group.

She spoke about her personal connection to the country and the shared responsibility for its direction. “I am Moldova, and Moldova is part of who I am,” Vidaicu said, emphasizing that each generation helps build the state.

Daniela Vidaicu also reviewed key moments in recent history, from the national revival to the April 7, 2009 protests in Moldova and the country’s European path, highlighting lessons learned. “We understood that individual involvement is not enough. We need collective engagement, solidarity, and a joint effort,” she stated.

According to her, democracy requires daily commitment, not just formal choice. “Democracy does not exist without participation,” Vidaicu stressed, noting that the country’s development depends on the concrete actions of every citizen—from respecting rules to civic engagement.

Referring to the European path, she underlined that integration does not happen only at the political or institutional level. “European integration will not be done by someone else for us, but by us, here at home,” she said.

“We must take on together the responsibility for a common future (…) and seriously get to work to advance on the path of European integration.”

She concluded by urging society to continue efforts toward development and alignment with European values: “Because we are Moldova, and its future depends on each and every one of us.”
