Vitaly Ignatiev claimed that Chisinau “turns Transnistria into a ghetto” after Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Valeriu Chiveri criticized the separatist authorities’ creation of the “Impreuna” (“Together”) fund.

The separatist administration issued a statement in Tiraspol and alleged that “Moldova’s blockade actions create direct risks for social stability, salary payments, pensions, and benefits for the residents of Transnistria.”

The statement added: “Moldova holds hostage the population of half a million in Transnistria, seriously violates international law, and tries to create its own version of a ghetto in this part of the European continent. Chisinau cynically misleads the international community and speculates about its alleged willingness to use confiscated funds indefinitely, supposedly for the needs of Transnistria.”

Valeriu Chiveri previously described the launch of the “Vmeste” (“Together”) fund by the Tiraspol administration as a result of “poor governance” in the region and as a new attempt at political manipulation.

The separatist authorities launched the fund on May 11 in response to a growing budget deficit and financial difficulties in the region. The main economic holding Sheriff announced a donation of 100 million Transnistrian rubles (about EUR 5.7 million) to the fund.

The separatist administration in Tiraspol created the “Vmeste” fund to collect money from the population and companies to support pensions, salaries, and other social spending.
