Igor Dodon: “We need to develop relations with Russia, as this is a market for the supply of our goods”

“We need to develop relations with the Russian Federation, as these are our friends, this is a market for the supply of our goods, these are energy resources.” This was stated by the Executive Secretary of the PSRM and the ex-president of Moldova, Igor Dodon, on the air of the Gagauz television.

“For the Moldovans, for the Republic of Moldova, it is important that there is stability in Russia because it is our partner. I understand that the current government does not want to work with the Russian Federation, based on the agreements that we reached at one time and were signed by the former rulers of the country before us. But in any case, we need to work and develop relations with the Russian Federation. These are our friends, the market for the supply of our goods, and the markets where we buy energy and other resources. Our strategic partner must also develop, and we are on good terms.”

Igor Dodon does not rule out that “the anti-Russian policy of the current Moldovan leadership may lead to responses from the Russian Federation.”

“Of course, the current anti-Russian policy of the Moldovan authorities may lead to some response from Russia. But I hope that this will not affect the ordinary citizens of Moldova. I hope that the Russian partners understand that the opinion and position of the current Moldovan rulers, temporarily, do not correspond to the opinion of the majority of citizens. And in no case should any restrictions be introduced against ordinary citizens – neither visas nor others. It seems to me that our Russian partners have a wise approach to the issue, and despite all the challenges and provocations of the Moldovan authorities, we, so far, have no significant problems for ordinary citizens. Ordinary citizens cannot be punished for the fact that temporary workers in power make mistakes.”
