Prime Minister-designate Vasile Tofan is quickly adapting to the political environment despite lacking previous political experience, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu says. The head of the legislature believes that the new prime minister candidate brings bold approaches and could introduce “out-of-the-box” initiatives in the Government’s work.

“He is very quickly internalizing and understanding what politics means. I have seen that he actually likes it. At the moment, our relationship is very good and collegial. We discuss things, explain our position regarding the implementation of certain policies, and he comes with his own approaches. He has really brought a new energy, and his bold approaches are appreciated by our colleagues. There will be some out-of-the-box initiatives,” Igor Grosu said.

The statements were made on the day when Vasile Tofan was in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova to present the government program and request a vote of confidence for the new Cabinet of Ministers. Tofan was officially nominated as candidate for the position of prime minister by President Maia Sandu on July 11.

The position of prime minister became vacant after Alexandru Munteanu resigned on July 3, following an eight-month mandate. In his official statement, Munteanu said he decided to step down after concluding that he could no longer carry out his mandate in line with his own principles and convictions.
