In line with EU standards: Moldovan Government approved new measures regulating railway transportation services

The Government has approved new measures regulating rail transport services, passenger rights, and obligations. The provisions will be applied to domestic and international travel by quality standards applicable in all EU member states.

The adopted project provides for the creation of access conditions and availability of equipment for people with disabilities and persons with reduced mobility. They will be able to be accompanied on the trip by an assistant who will be provided with a free ticket.

The document also outlines the mechanisms of assistance and compensation which will provide by rail carriers to travelers who face cancellation or delay. These include free meals and refreshments offered to passengers in the event of delays and the provision of alternative transportation services in the event of interrupted rail service.

“The implementation of the project involves costs on the part of the infrastructure administrator and railway companies providing passenger transportation services, including the arrangement of stations and train sets by the established requirements, as well as digitalization of sales, notification, and communication with passengers,” the Ministry of Infrastructure, Andrei SpĂ®nu, said.

The authorities believe these rules will contribute to the reform and modernization of the railway transport sector and will create European conditions for travel.
