Enhancing cooperation between central authorities and those in the Gagauzia and fostering constructive dialogue were the main objectives of a working meeting held in Comrat.

The discussions brought together Deputy Secretary General of the Government Alexandru Iacub, state secretaries from various ministries, as well as mayors and representatives of local authorities from the autonomous region.

Iacub emphasized the openness of the central authorities in the Republic of Moldova to broad dialogue aimed at supporting regional development and improving people’s quality of life.

“The government’s goal is to support the social, economic, and cultural development of the autonomous region through concrete results—investments, jobs, infrastructure, better education, and the preservation of local traditions. Only through cooperation, dialogue, and mutual respect will we be able to ensure the sustainable development of the region and the country,” the official said.

Participants discussed the situation in the region and the challenges faced by local public authorities. The agenda included regulating relations between central and regional authorities, implementing infrastructure projects, enforcing environmental legislation, combating illegal agricultural processing practices, and other key issues.

The importance of ensuring a transparent and fair electoral process in the region was also highlighted. “The main goal is to eliminate electoral corruption. In the long term, this will create the conditions for a new political class focused on improving living standards in local communities,” Iacub added.

Authorities announced that such meetings between the government and representatives of Gagauzia will continue on a quarterly basis.
