Romanian president Klaus Iohannis has called for a meeting of the Supreme Council for National Defense, which will take place on Tuesday, April 11th, at the Cotroceni Palace, according to a press release from the Presidential Administration in Bucharest.
The meeting’s agenda includes topics related to developments regarding the security situation in the Black Sea Region, in the context of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, and external interventions in the democratic process in the Republic of Moldova.
In mid-March, RISE published the investigation “Kremlin’s Plan for Moldova.” The material elaborated by journalists from Moldova, in collaboration with publications from the United States and ten other countries, discloses Russia’s plan to bring the Republic of Moldova under its own umbrella by 2030 – a strategy that was allegedly developed in the Kremlin about two years ago.

Against the backdrop of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the Government in Chisinau has increasingly promoted the Republic of Moldova’s proximity to the European Union. Recently, the President has also set a deadline for this objective – the year 2030.
This 2030 deadline is also found in Russia’s strategy for taking political control over the Republic of Moldova and distancing our country from Western partners. The Supreme Council for National Defense will discuss these crucial issues and consider Romania’s position in the current regional context.
