“The flag is not just a state symbol, but the heart of our independent country,” said Ion Ceban, Mayor General of the capital, during the operational meeting of Chisinau City Hall, marking State Flag Day of Moldova.

The mayor emphasized that the tricolor symbolizes unity, identity, and national dignity—“something we take pride in: our country, our people, and who we are.”

“I congratulate the younger generation! Today, students and teachers across educational institutions played the anthem and held discussions about the meaning of the flag. I thank teachers for passing on the love of the homeland to our children. Happy anniversary, Moldova! Happy State Flag Day of the Republic of Moldova!” Ion Ceban said.

Deputies of the first Parliament officially designated the tricolor as the state flag on April 27, 1990, and Parliament in Chisinau established State Flag Day in 2010.

This year marks 36 years since the adoption of the tricolor. Its colors carry deep symbolic meaning: blue represents the clear sky, loyalty, and truth; yellow reflects wealth and the grain of the fields; and red evokes the sacrifice and courage of the ancestors. Together, they express the unity of the past, present, and future of the state and its citizens.
