Authorities sentenced Irina Lozovan to six years in prison, but her whereabouts remain unknown. The court placed her in pretrial detention until the verdict becomes final.
Investigators arrested the former politician for attempting to bribe the mayor of Ocnita to support the “Renastere” party, which Ilan Shor controls. Her husband assisted in the scheme and received a five-year prison sentence. They offered the local official one million lei for the municipality and another million for himself.
Officials discovered Lozovan’s disappearance after her colleague, MP Alexandr Nesterovschi, received a 12-year prison sentence. On March 3, the court prohibited her from leaving the country. When journalists contacted her daughter, she said she did not know her mother’s location but had received assurances that she was safe.
