Janis Mazeiks: Over the past two years, Moldova has fulfilled the expectations of the European Commission

According to Janis Mazeiks, the head of the EU Delegation to Moldova, the Republic of Moldova has met the expectations of Europeans over the last two years.

The diplomat stated in an interview with the Ukrainian publication Suspilne that the accession of Moldova and Ukraine to the European Union by 2030 is an ambitious plan, and that member states are prepared for enlargement by the end of the decade.

“The rate of progress is ambitious. If Moldova continues to implement reforms and meet the expectations of the European Commission at the same pace as it has been doing for the last two years, it is hoped that the objectives can be achieved,” said Janis Mazeiks.

The head of the EU Delegation in Chisinau stated that the EU’s only partner is Chisinau and that the EU wants Moldova to join the community together with the reintegrated Transnistria. However, one could also consider the situation when the right bank joins the Union first and then the left bank joins, although such an eventuality is not welcome, according to Mazeiks.
