Janis Mazeiks: We hope that as many citizens as possible will participate in the fall referendum

The referendum is crucial for the Republic of Moldova, and we hope many citizens will participate in this vote. European Union Ambassador to Chisinau Janis Mazeiks emphasized this importance in an interview with “Est Curier.”

The referendum is a significant event for any nation, including the Republic of Moldova, as it affects current and future generations.

“We hope many citizens will participate in this referendum so we can determine whether they support Moldova’s accession to the EU,” said the diplomat.

He stressed the importance of ensuring that citizens’ opinions in the referendum are not influenced or manipulated by external forces. Mazeiks urged political forces to express their views on integration honestly and asked citizens to stay well-informed and avoid falling victim to propaganda.

The EU official noted that Moldova has made substantial progress over the last three years and should continue its efforts to become an EU member.

On October 20, 2024, Moldovan citizens will participate in a constitutional referendum and answer, “Do you agree with amending the Constitution for Moldova’s accession to the European Union?”
