Japan Grants 1.8 Million Euros to Support Moldovan Farmers Amid Regional Challenges

Moldova will receive a grant of 300 million Japanese yen (1.8 million euros) to support farmers. The agreement between the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the Government of Japan was signed today in Chisinau, as reported by IPN.

Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, stated that the Republic of Moldova is affected by the repercussions of the Russia-Ukraine war, including the agricultural sector. The government has managed to mitigate the negative impact thanks to the support of development partners, including Japan. The agreement signed today once again demonstrates the support provided to the country and strengthens the capacity of the economy, the agricultural sector, and farmers to develop.

In turn, the Japanese Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, Yamada Yoichiro, noted that the grant will support farmers by providing them with affordable complex fertilizers. The war initiated by Russia in Ukraine has also posed challenges for Moldova. The country had to face multiple challenges but has resiliently withstood them. Japan sees Moldova not only as an economic development partner but also as a political and diplomatic partner. Japan has acknowledged Moldova’s efforts and supports it on its European path.
