Moldovan Ambassador to Washington Vlad Kulminski stated that the meeting between President Maia Sandu and U.S. Senator Marco Rubio in Munich was initiated by the American side. He told TV8 that Moldova’s administration is expected to visit the White House.
Ambassador Kulminski said the talks between Sandu and Rubio “will help open a new chapter” in Moldova–U.S. bilateral relations, without providing further details about the discussions.
He added, “The meeting is important also because the U.S. continues to play a key role for Moldova in terms of security. I cannot speak about this now, but immediately after this meeting, a series of visits to the U.S. at the ministerial and institutional level in the energy and economic sectors will follow. Thanks to this meeting, many initiatives can be accelerated. This was a meeting agreed upon long in advance. Moreover, the initiative came from the American side. Of course, both the U.S. Embassy in Moldova and the Moldovan Embassy in the U.S. actively contributed to this.”
On the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, Maia Sandu held talks with Marco Rubio. Later, she announced that the Republic of Moldova is strengthening collaboration with the U.S. in the energy and security sectors.
