In her pre-referendum message, Elena Lasconi stressed that Moldovans want to leave the next generation a country where freedom prevails. The Romanian politician expressed confidence that on Sunday, Basarabians will back Moldova’s European integration.
“For those of us who value freedom and wish to enjoy the benefits of a prosperous Europe, Russia is not a distant, vague threat—it is the greatest danger to the way of life we’ve worked to build for 35 years. Moldovans understand this better than we do, and I hope they will firmly say YES in the referendum on Sunday, ensuring they leave behind a country where everyone enjoys freedom and prosperity, not just a privileged few under the regime,” Lasconi stated.
Lasconi, the USR candidate for the Romanian presidency, also took the opportunity to remind his opponent, Mircea Geoana, of his 2009 visits to Moscow and his appointment to a NATO position by the PSD.

“Mr. Geoana, let me remind you: Moscow does not believe in tears. It didn’t in 2009 when you flew to Moscow on Mr. Vîntu’s private plane to seek support for the Romanian presidency as if Romania were a Russian province. Nor did it in 2019, when, as the central press reported, with the help of Moshe Kantor—one of Putin’s close associates—you were appointed to NATO by Mrs. Viorica Dancila. Romania has chosen its path: firmly to the West, with no turning back to Putin’s Russia!” Lasconi added.
