A majority of Moldovan citizens voted “YES” in the referendum on European integration. As of 5:00 PM on Monday, October 21, 2024, around 7,000 diaspora votes remain unprocessed.
Preliminary results show that 50.47% of voters support amending the Constitution to enshrine EU membership as a strategic objective for the country, while 49.55% voted “NO.” The margin between the two options is approximately 14,000 votes.
In total, around 1.4 million voters participated in the referendum out of over 1.5 million who turned out to vote. More than 240,000 voters cast their ballots from abroad.

Dondusheni, Taraclia, Gagauzia, and Ocnita recorded the highest voter turnout in Moldova, while Moldovans abroad cast the most votes in Italy, Russia, Romania, and France. Polling stations in Bucharest, Brashov, Moscow, Livry-Gargan, and Brescia extended their hours to accommodate voters.
In a first for Moldova, citizens from six countries can now vote by mail. Authorities sent over 1,800 voting envelopes to registered voters, and more than 1,300 ballots were received by the deadline.
