The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, who is on a working visit to Greece upon the invitation of the Prime Minister of the Hellenic Republic, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, had meetings yesterday with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, as well as with the Prime Minister of Romania, Marcel Ciolacu. The meetings took place on the sidelines of the meeting of heads of state and government from Southeastern Europe and the Western Balkans, organized by Prime Minister Mitsotakis.

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu emphasized that the security of our region is a vital element for Romania!

“I proposed to the leaders from Southeastern Europe and the Western Balkans that we work together for the economic development of our region. Alongside the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, the Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, and other heads of state and government from Southeastern Europe, we reaffirmed the unity and solidarity that we must demonstrate in this crucial moment of history. The future of Europe and the preservation of the fundamental values of democracy and freedom depend on our actions now,” wrote Prime Minister Ciolacu in a Facebook post.

According to him, Romania is a vector of stability and can be a key economic hub in this region of Europe.

“We need a European mechanism that supports the significant investments we will make in infrastructure and the expansion of logistical capabilities. Additionally, I emphasized that Romania’s place is in the Schengen Area. The accession of our country to the Schengen Area is not only a legitimate expectation but also a decision of strategic importance in the current regional context,” added Marcel Ciolacu.
