In a recent visit to one of the country’s largest livestock farms specializing in dairy cattle, Vice Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea, who also serves as the Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting animal breeders throughout the entire technological chain. The farm, which is the only one in the district producing silage and hay, plays a vital role in the prioritized zootechnical sector, reported MOLDPRES.
The farm owner manages an agricultural land area of 160 hectares, cultivating 70 hectares of alfalfa, corn, peas, barley, and forage crops used for animal nutrition.
During discussions held last week, the farmer expressed appreciation for the ministry’s approach and the supportive measures aimed at boosting the zootechnical sector. He also highlighted the necessity of a manure storage pit on the farm, emphasizing the importance of introducing the accumulated waste back into the soil. Despite being a family-run farm, the business has created an additional four job opportunities.

The farmer in Ghelăuza started his venture in 2011 as a small-scale activity, which later developed into a full-fledged business. Over the years, he has increased the productivity of his livestock and expanded the forage base. Presently, he tends to a herd of 160 animals, including 70 milking cows. Throughout this period, the government has provided financial support for constructing barns and procuring necessary equipment and machinery. In 2022, the farmer began investing in highly productive breeding animals, specifically importing 29 Simmental heifers from Germany. These efforts have resulted in a daily yield of 30 kilograms of fresh and flavorful milk per cow. Annually, he produces around 8,000 kilograms of milk per feed-fed cow.
Vice Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea’s visit to the Ghelăuza farm underscored the government’s commitment to bolstering the zootechnical sector. By providing financial support and encouraging sustainable practices such as manure recycling, the government aims to ensure the continued growth and success of livestock breeders. This comprehensive support will not only benefit individual farmers but also contribute to the overall development of the agricultural industry in Moldova.
