Moldova values its significant cooperation with the United States and seeks to strengthen this partnership following President Donald Trump’s inauguration. President Maia Sandu made these statements during a press conference on the Supreme Security Council (CSS) decisions.
Maia Sandu emphasized Moldova’s commitment to further developing its strategic partnership with the U.S., particularly in energy security.
“We want to continue and enhance our strategic partnership, especially regarding today’s focus – energy security. The U.S. has provided substantial support, including resources for specific projects, renewable energy initiatives, and strengthening our connection to the European market. Additionally, we benefit from valuable programs that improve economic competitiveness across various sectors,” the Moldovan president said.

She added, “This cooperation is crucial for us, and we want to deepen it further.”
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE), the Moldova-U.S. bilateral legal framework comprises 126 documents, including agreements, memorandums, understandings, and declarations in economic, military, judicial, educational, and scientific fields.
In 2023, trade between Moldova and the U.S. totaled $184 million, with exports to the U.S. reaching $61.63 million and imports amounting to $122.91 million.
From January to July 2024, the U.S. ranked among the top countries of origin for Moldovan imports, accounting for 1.6%. Imports from the U.S. increased by 21.6%. At the same time, the U.S. remained a significant destination for Moldovan exports, representing 2.6% of total exports, with a 1.7% increase compared to the previous year.
President Donald Trump, the only U.S. president to serve two non-consecutive terms, will be sworn into office on January 20. He previously served as president from 2017 to 2021.
