The Church of the Assumption of the “Mother of God” in Causeni was reopened, and President Maia Sandu was in attendance.
“I attended the reopening of the Church of the Assumption of the “Mother of God,” a historical monument of national importance. The building is a unique monument and one of the oldest in the country. It was restored with funding from the American people and contributions from the government. This project is the largest restoration and conservation effort of a cultural monument in the Republic of Moldova, funded by the US. Although the church was converted into a barn by the Soviet authorities in the past, a significant portion of the interior frescoes from the 18th century, which are post-Baroque Venetian, were successfully preserved. This is positive news for all, particularly the residents of Causeni, whose history and identity are closely tied to the location. The church, now a museum, has put Causeni on the tourist map of the country and the region. It is noteworthy that this is the only church in our country with a fully painted interior,” the leader of the state wrote on her Facebook page.
Such unique places fill us with pride and bring us together, just as our forefathers were united in their faith in God when they built this church against all odds. It is crucial to preserve and maintain our traditions and monuments and promote them on a global scale.
