The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, gave a speech yesterday in front of the plenary session of the United Nations General Assembly. From the UN podium, the head of state demanded the withdrawal of Russian troops stationed illegally in the Republic of Moldova and said that the settlement of the Transnistrian problem must be through dialogue, respecting the territorial unity of the Republic of Moldova.
“Moldova knows what it’s like to be a country divided by a conflict. In 1992 we had a tragic war in the Transnistrian region of our country. After three decades we are still trying to end the consequences of this conflict and reintegrate the country. The only way is peaceful dialogue and respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity. Since Russia started the war against Ukraine, we must work harder than ever to maintain peace on both banks of the Dniester. The illegal presence of Russian military troops in the Transnistrian region violates neutrality and increases the security risk of our country. We demand the complete and unconditional withdrawal of Russian troops. We demand the destruction of the ammunition from Cobasna, which endangers the surrounding security”, declared Maia Sandu.
