The presidential press service reported that President Maia Sandu engaged in discussions today with Nicolas Schmit, European Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights, and Gilbert F. Houngbo, Director-General of the International Labour Organisation.
During the meeting, Maia Sandu expressed gratitude for their assistance in addressing the challenges stemming from the Russian invasion of Ukraine, as well as for their support of institutional reforms in labor and funding-related programs. The recent signing of a new €2 million funding agreement, aimed at enhancing the capabilities of the National Employment Agency and the State Labour Inspectorate, was also acknowledged and welcomed.
The discussion also centered around Moldova’s participation in the European Commission’s Employment and Social Innovation Programme (EaSI), which will facilitate access to funds for the country’s social policies. Both the European Commission and the ILO reaffirmed their commitment to supporting social sector reforms, enhancing institutional capacities, and facilitating the transposition of European legislation and best practices in Moldova.
