The country’s president, Maia Sandu, thanked Germany for its support and vote of confidence for our country to obtain candidate status to join the EU. Thanks were sent to the German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, whom he met today, September 23, in Berlin.
“Thank you for Germany’s support and vote of confidence for our EU candidate status and for the support that helps us deal with the consequences of Russia’s war against Ukraine. Ways to deepen our Moldovan-German ties in energy, economy and security were discussed,” announced Sandu.
We remind you that, on Sunday, September 18 and Monday, September 19, the head of state was in London, where she attended the state funeral of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, paying her respects on behalf of all the citizens of the Republic of Moldova.

Later, on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 20-21, the president was in New York, at the UN General Assembly, an annual event that discusses topics of global interest. The head of state will participate in several events in the field of education and will have several bilateral meetings.
Upon returning home, Maia Sandu made a short working visit to Berlin, where she met with the Federal Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, with Svenja Schulze, the Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany, with members of the Bundestag and representatives of the business environment from this country.
