The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, declared at a joint press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk that the country’s European path is irreversible and represents the only viable option for a safe and prosperous future.
Sandu emphasized that the presence of the leaders of France, Germany, and Poland in Chisinau on Independence Day is a clear sign of solidarity and respect for Moldovan citizens.
“Today we celebrate a free country, respected for its honest and hardworking people. Moldova matters, and joining the European Union is not a distant dream, but a project we are working on,” Maia Sandu stated.
She underlined that the European project is not only a political choice, but also a guarantee of peace and stability:
“There is no alternative to Europe, and without the European Union, Moldova remains stuck in the past.”
At the same time, the president warned about external pressures threatening the country’s independence, including interference in elections, illegal financing, disinformation campaigns, cyberattacks, and paid protests.

“We will have the future we want only if we protect it. Only Moldovans must decide for Moldova,” she said.
Sandu highlighted recent progress achieved with European support—such as strengthening state institutions, consolidating energy security, and expanding access for Moldovan producers to the EU single market, which offers “stability, clear rules, and real opportunities, not embargoes and blackmail.”
Concluding her remarks, the head of state affirmed that Moldova is already part of the European project:
“The courage of Moldovans, our dignity, and honest work will make Europe stronger, safer, more united, and more prosperous. We are not alone, and that gives us strength—to continue maintaining peace, freedom, and development in our country, together with our European family.”
