President Maia Sandu has announced her support for the Save Romania Union (SRU) candidate, Elena Lasconi, in the Romanian presidential elections. The head of state shared a recorded message during a meeting with Lasconi on Thursday, December 5, in Romania.
“The most dangerous thing for a nation is to be gripped by fear and hostility. I understand that many of us are worried and seeking a leader with a character who can unite us. I believe Ms. Lasconi can be that courageous leader who loves Romanians, unites them, and keeps Romania on the right path,” stated Maia Sandu.

In her speech, the president emphasized that Romania has always been a model for the Republic of Moldova. Through the efforts of its people, Romania stands proud in the European Union today, and its progress is evident.
“I know that Elena Lasconi will not turn her back on the relationship with the Republic of Moldova but will continue what we have started together. We have many wonderful projects to accomplish. Our shared destiny is the free world – the prosperity, stability, and development brought by EU membership,” Sandu added.
In the second round of the Romanian presidential elections, the race is between SRU’s Elena Lasconi and Calin Georgescu, a candidate often compared to the Kremlin’s leader. In the first round, most Moldovans with Romanian citizenship voted for the SRU candidate.
