European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos said she expects the next EU accession negotiation clusters for the Republic of Moldova to be launched in July, ahead of the intergovernmental conference in Luxembourg.
She noted that the decision will also apply to Ukraine and said that procedures related to Montenegro’s accession process are also progressing.
“Today will be, or truly is, a mega day or a mega Monday for the enlargement process. First of all, we will take an important first step for Ukraine and Moldova, after they obtained candidate status in 2023. So finally, we will be able to open the first cluster for both countries.
Why? Because they have delivered results; it was truly time to do so, and if they deliver results, we should also do our part. That is why I expect us to open all the other five clusters,” Kos said.
She added that both Moldova and Ukraine had made sufficient progress in reforms to justify moving forward in the accession process.
The EU intergovernmental conference is currently taking place in Luxembourg, with the Republic of Moldova represented by a delegation led by Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu.
