Meeting Between Minister Mihai Popsoi and Ireland’s Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, Brendan Ward

On June 24, 2025, in Chisinau, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popsoi held a farewell meeting with Ireland’s Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, Brendan Ward, who resides in Bucharest.

Minister Popsoi expressed appreciation for the ambassador’s work and his significant contribution to strengthening Moldova-Ireland relations over recent years, marked by active political dialogue and high-level openness.

“The Republic of Moldova enjoys increased attention from Ireland, and the Irish Government’s decision last year to open an embassy in Chisinau reflects its commitment to deepening our bilateral relations. We look forward to the official opening of the new diplomatic mission shortly,” stated Minister Popsoi, as cited in a press release.

During the meeting, both parties welcomed Ireland’s willingness to advance bilateral cooperation in areas of shared interest, including the launch of negotiations for a driver’s license conversion agreement and the initiation of procedures for a social security agreement.

After the talks, Minister Popsoi thanked Ambassador Brendan Ward for his continued openness and support in promoting Moldova’s priorities. He expressed confidence that Moldova-Ireland relations would continue to grow within a strengthened institutional framework following Ireland’s diplomatic presence in Chisinau.
