Will he be allowed to enter Russia?Zakharova responded to Popsoi’s remarks

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has joked about the remarks of the new head of the Foreign Ministry, Mihai Popsoi. After taking office, he asked whether the ban on entry to Russia issued earlier against him would be canceled.

“I remember how Mihai Popshoy last summer, when he was deputy speaker of parliament, said on social networks the exact following, that it is an honor for him to be in line with many good people who will no longer be able to go to Russia. So it turns out now he is wondering whether he will be dishonored?” Zakharova stated.

In mid-August 2023, Russia banned 20 citizens of Moldova from entering its territory. Among them are 18 MPs from the ruling party “Action and Solidarity” (PAS).

The list includes: Mihai Popsoi, Radu Marian, Veronica Rosca, Andrian Keptonar, Ion Spak, Eugenia Cojocari, Ersilia Catravi, Mihail Druta, Maria Pancu, Artemije Catanoi, Igor Chiriac, Ion Groza, Vasile Gradinaru, Sergiu Lazarenco, Vitalii Žakot, Ion Babić, Doina Gherman and Gheorghe Cojoc.

After he was appointed head of the MFAEI, Mihai Popsoi said that he got on this list back in the summer of 2023, as a deputy from the ruling party Action and Solidarity (PAS).

Popsoi said he did not know who compiled the Russian stop list but suggested that the Russian Foreign Ministry or security services might play “a role” in it.

“It will be interesting to see how the Kremlin and the Russian Foreign Ministry react to my appointment as foreign minister. It is their business. I do not know what decision they will make. But according to international standards, diplomats, despite disagreements between countries, work to establish a dialog and should have the opportunity and the right to do so,” the minister said.
