The Republic of Moldova and France will cooperate in the field of defense. The Cabinet of Ministers is expected to approve the opening of negotiations and the signing of an agreement.
The draft will be debated at Wednesday’s meeting of the Executive on 21 February. The decision published so far on the Government’s website is one page long, contains 4 points and the information note seems to be kept “secret”.
Thus, according to the document, the authorities in Chisinau take note of the draft agreement between the Government of Moldova and France, initiate negotiations, and approve the signing. The Decision will enter into force upon publication in the Official Journal.
The cooperation between Moldova and France in the military field has been discussed since September 2023. At the time, French Armed Forces Minister Sébastien Lecornu raised the issue in meetings with Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean and his counterpart in Chisinau Anatolie Nosatii. The officials talked then about the multiplication of interoperability projects between the two states, which will accelerate the process of transformation of the National Army and modernization of the defense sector.
