The Republic of Moldova could have a new government in place by the end of next week, according to Doina Gherman, head of the ruling PAS parliamentary faction. She confirmed that the majority remains united around the goal of forming a new executive as quickly as possible.
Gherman stated that the entire PAS faction — including MPs Dinu Plingau and Stela Macari — will support Alexandru Munteanu’s candidacy for prime minister. She emphasized that there are no reasons for internal divisions and that both lawmakers will back the proposed government.
“Most likely, by the end of next week, the Republic of Moldova will have a new government. This means that our country is on the right path. This is what we promised people, and this is what we are doing,” Gherman said during the Rezoomat program on RliveTV.
Speaking about the designated prime minister, Gherman highlighted Munteanu’s economic expertise and international connections, noting his potential to attract foreign investment.
“He is well-connected internationally, and we believe he will add value in terms of investment. We’ve seen in Alexandru Munteanu a team player — a balanced and wise person,” she added.
Gherman also reaffirmed the unity of the PAS faction, saying:
“All 55 MPs entered Parliament on the PAS list. The PAS faction has been officially formed, including Dinu Plîngău and Stela Macari. I don’t anticipate a situation in which they would leave. I know they are reliable colleagues who will support initiatives in the interest of citizens and the government we intend to approve. There’s no basis for divergences.”
Meanwhile, consultations between President Maia Sandu and parliamentary factions on nominating the new prime minister begin today at 1:00 p.m. Under the Constitution, the president nominates a candidate after consultations with all factions. The designated prime minister then has 15 days to present the governing program and Cabinet lineup to Parliament for approval.
