Starting from October 1st, the Republic of Moldova will daily import 2 million cubic meters of natural gas from Turkey, according to announcements made by the local media. This significant change in gas supply is the result of a contract signed by the local company “Petrol Taşıma AŞ’ (BOTAŞ),” as reported by Bani.md.
Although additional details about the contract have not been provided yet, it is mentioned that the agreement was concluded with the regional firm “East Gas Energy Trading.” The available information does not disclose the exact terms of the contract, such as the price or duration of the agreement.
So far, the authorities in Chișinău have not issued official statements or additional details regarding this arrangement.
Since the end of 2022, all the gas supplied by Gazprom to Moldova has been redirected to Transnistria due to a reduction in volumes by Gazprom to 5.7 million cubic meters. Chișinău has shifted its focus to the Western market, and the gas delivered to the left bank of the Dniester River is used for the region’s internal needs and for generating electricity, which is exported to the right bank of the Dniester.
