The Republic of Moldova has taken another step in its European Union accession process. Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov announced that, under the Irish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Moldova has been invited to present its negotiating position for Cluster 6 – “External Relations.”
According to Gherasimov, the Moldovan authorities have been preparing for this stage for more than a year. She stressed that maintaining the pace of reforms remains essential.
“It is important that we continue to maintain the pace of reforms. European integration is a project for the entire country, a national objective that requires significant work and responsibility. Today, Moldova has a real opportunity to anchor itself in the European family, where there is peace, security, numerous opportunities for citizens, and a better quality of life,” she said.
Cluster 6, “External Relations,” covers four negotiating chapters: External Relations; Common Foreign, Security and Defence Policy; Institutions; and Other Issues.
On June 15, Moldova officially opened negotiations on its first accession cluster, “Fundamentals.” Each chapter of the EU accession process is negotiated separately.
