The Republic of Moldova initiates procedures to access a €40 million loan to modernize 20 educational institutions in rural areas. The parliamentary Committee for Foreign Policy approves a consultative opinion to launch negotiations with the European Investment Bank (EIB).

The funding targets the renovation of school infrastructure and its alignment with European Union standards, with a focus on energy efficiency and the development of digital learning environments.

According to the Ministry of Education and Research, the selected institutions will receive modern, safe, and accessible facilities adapted to the needs of students and teachers. The project focuses on energy efficiency, digitalization of education, and the redevelopment of more than 200,000 square meters of infrastructure.

The authorities aim to improve education quality, increase the attractiveness of rural schools, and expand access to modern learning conditions, especially for children from disadvantaged communities.

In addition to the €40 million loan, the project receives a €2 million grant through the Neighbourhood Investment Platform (NIP) and an €8 million national contribution. The agreement enters into force after ratification by Parliament.
