Moldova’s State Hydrometeorological Service has issued a hydrological warning over reduced water flow, valid from October 3 to 9, 2026.
According to the warning issued on October 2 at 13:45, low water flow is expected to persist on the Dniester and Prut rivers, as well as on most of the country’s smaller rivers.
An Orange Code warning is in effect on the Dniester, where water flow is forecast at just 20–25% of the long-term average monthly values for October. On the section between Naslavcea and Camenca, flow could fall below 20%, depending on the daily amount of water released from Ukraine’s Novodnestrovsk reservoir.
The situation is also difficult on the Prut. An Orange Code warning is in effect between Criva and Costești, where flow is expected to remain at 30% or less of the long-term average. Between Costești and Brânza, a Yellow Code warning has been issued, with flow estimated at 30–40% of the average.
The warnings also cover several smaller rivers. An Orange Code has been declared for the Răut and Căinar, where flow is expected to reach only around 25–30% of average levels. A Yellow Code is in effect on the Bâc and Lunga rivers, with flow forecast at approximately 40%.
The most severe conditions are expected on several small rivers. A Red Code warning has been issued for the Vilia, where flow is forecast at around 15% of the long-term average. On the Draghiște, Cubolta, Ciulucul Mic, Ichel and Botna rivers, water flow could fall to 10% or less of the average monthly values.
Authorities are urging businesses and the public to use water resources rationally as the country continues to face a hydrological deficit.
