Speaker Igor Grosu stated that the visit of European leaders to Chisinau on Moldova’s Independence Day demonstrates the European Union’s strong support for the country’s European path.
“The message from Moldova’s three friends – Emmanuel Macron, Friedrich Merz, and Donald Tusk – is clear: Moldova is respected and awaited in the European Union,” Grosu said. He added that their presence recognizes the Republic of Moldova’s efforts toward European integration.
On Independence Day, three of Europe’s most influential leaders – French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk – arrived in Chisinau to send a strong message of support. They addressed thousands of Moldovans gathered at the Great National Assembly Square (PMAN) for the celebratory concert.

Macron delivered his speech in Romanian, wearing a badge with Moldova’s flag. Citizens cheered and applauded for several minutes. “Tomorrow, our European Union will be stronger together with Moldova, and Moldova itself will be stronger and more prosperous in Europe. Together, we will write a new chapter in the history of Moldova and Europe,” he said.
Donald Tusk also spoke in Romanian: “You have shown the world that Moldova lives by our common values – freedom, democracy, solidarity. Do not let Russia return here. Do not squander what you have built,” he declared.
Friedrich Merz congratulated Moldovans for their courage and reforms, highlighting the nation’s progress on the path toward European integration.
On 27 August, the Republic of Moldova celebrated 34 years since proclaiming Independence.
