The Republic of Moldova will have a new large-scale photovoltaic power plant after the Government authorized the installation of a 30 MW solar facility in the outskirts of Vadul lui Voda, Chisinau municipality. The project will be developed on a 40.7-hectare plot of land and will include, at a later stage, an energy storage system with a capacity of 60 MWh to improve the stability of the national power system, BANI.MD reports.
According to the project documents, the investment is being carried out by SRL “Energy Vad”, which submitted its authorization request in April 2026. The solar plant will be equipped with approximately 54,000 photovoltaic panels, 150 inverters and five transformer substations.
Authorities estimate that the plant will become operational by the end of 2026, while the battery storage systems will be installed during 2027. The batteries will be able to deliver stored energy at maximum capacity for around two hours, helping balance the electricity grid and integrate a larger share of renewable energy into the system.
The Ministry of Energy says the project supports the objectives of Moldova’s Energy Strategy until 2030. By increasing local green energy production, authorities aim to reduce dependence on electricity imports, strengthen energy security, lower carbon emissions and make use of land that is not currently involved in agricultural production.
The project documents also state that the investment will not require funding from the state budget, as all construction and grid connection costs will be covered by the investor. At the same time, the project is expected to create new jobs and contribute to reducing the country’s dependence on imported energy resources.
