Moldova will become the global capital of wine. Our country will host an international event this summer

The Republic of Moldova is preparing to become the global epicenter of viticulture and winemaking from June 16-20, 2025, hosting the 46th World Congress of the International Organization of Vine and Wine. The concept of the event was presented in Paris during an international meeting, according to IPN.

Corina Calugaru, the Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to France, emphasized that organizing this congress is a recognition of the progress made by the national wine sector.

“It is an honor for the Republic of Moldova to be the global wine capital in 2025. This event will highlight the efforts and enthusiasm of Moldovan producers, who have turned winemaking into a benchmark sector for the country’s economy,” said the diplomat.

During the presentation in Paris, officials highlighted the uniqueness of Moldovan wines, thanks to indigenous varieties such as Feteasca alba, Feteasca regala, Feteasca neagra, Rara neagra, and Viorica.

John Barker, Director General of OIV, stated that this year’s congress theme reflects the strategic priorities of the organization: “The future path of the vine and wine: Embracing resilience, Advancing value, Strengthening innovation.” Barker noted that Moldova has a “special calling” for winemaking, and this sector is a fundamental element of the country’s economy, culture, and history.

In the same context, Andrian Digolean, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, highlighted the impressive progress of Moldovan winemaking.

“Ten years ago, this was a dream, and it has become a reality. Moldovan wines are present in over 70 countries and have won over 7,000 international awards in the last decade,” said the official.

Participants in the Congress will have the opportunity to discover Moldova’s tourism heritage, including the Wine Route, part of the European cultural itinerary Iter Vitis. The event will also serve as an opportunity to promote other unique attractions, such as the outdoor classical music festival DescOpera, held annually at Orheiul Vechi.
