Government websites of the Republic of Moldova faced over 14 million cyberattack attempts on the night before the parliamentary elections, IPN reported. The Information Technology and Cyber Security Service (STISC) detected and blocked all of the attempts.
According to STISC, attackers mainly targeted the websites of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) and the Public Services Agency (ASP).

To reduce potential risks, STISC decided to temporarily suspend non-essential government websites during this period.
When IPN contacted Ion Buga, STISC’s public relations specialist, he did not confirm the reported cyberattacks on government websites.

Authorities had already warned four days earlier that thousands of Wi-Fi routers in citizens’ homes had been compromised. Hackers intended to use the infected networks to launch attacks on CEC servers and infrastructure on election day to block the institution’s activity.
