Moldovan judoka wins silver medal at Paralympic Games in Paris 

Judoka Ion Basoc has won a silver medal at the Paralympic Games in Paris. He was defeated in the final of the J1 +90kg event by Brazilian judoka Wilians Silva de Araujo.

Basoc advanced to the semifinals after defeating French judoka Jason Grandry in the quarterfinals and Dutch judoka Daniel Knegt earlier in the competition.

President Maia Sandu congratulated Basoc, stating, “Moldova has won silver! Congratulations, Ion Basoc, on becoming the Paralympic silver medalist in para-judo. We are grateful for your perseverance and incredible effort. We share in the joy of each victory with you, our athletes, and coaches, and we thank you for these memorable moments.”

In addition, judoka Oleg Cretu secured a bronze medal today.

The Moldovan delegation at the Paralympic Games in Paris includes five athletes competing in three events: para judo, para powerlifting, and para athletics.
