Moldovan lawmakers say they want to see the country become European, peaceful and secure over the next 35 years. While some MPs stressed Moldova’s neutrality, others said they want citizens to be proud of the passport they hold.
Socialist MP Igor Dodon said his biggest fear is that Moldova could “lose the country” if the government does not change. MP Vasile Tarlev, meanwhile, said Moldova needs to become a stable and secure country for its citizens.
Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu said he wants to see Moldova become a member of the European Union, while PAS MP Victor Matraguna said his vision is one of peace and a dignified life for Moldovan citizens.
Meanwhile, Renato Usatii, leader of the Our Party parliamentary faction, said he wants to see the Constitution amended and Moldovan citizens treated as citizens of a strong state.
The statements were made as Moldova marks 35 years since the proclamation of independence, with the country looking ahead to the next decades of its development.
