Moldovan-Romanian Citizens Urged to Vote in Romanian Presidential Runoff

Moldovan citizens with Romanian citizenship are encouraged to participate in the second round of Romania’s presidential elections this weekend. Government spokesperson Daniel Voda emphasized the importance of the vote, calling it “a unique opportunity that we should take advantage of, especially since it concerns the direction Romania will take for the next five years.”

Voda confirmed that the runoff will be organized under the same conditions as the first round, two weeks ago.

“This means that from May 16 to May 18, voting will be at the same polling stations as in the first round—more than 50 across the country. All Moldovans with Romanian citizenship have the opportunity to help decide who will lead Romania for the next five years,” he stated.

Highlighting Romania’s close ties with Moldova, Voda emphasized that Romania has consistently supported Moldova on its European integration journey.

“We share a common language, culture, and identity. That gives us, especially those with Romanian citizenship, a responsibility to actively participate and support a candidate who also supports the interests of the Republic of Moldova,” he added.

The second round of the Romanian presidential election will be held from Friday, May 16, to Sunday, May 18—from 7:00 AM to 9:00 PM.

A total of 64 polling stations will be open in Moldova:

  • 18 stations in the Northern region
  • 38 stations in the Central region, including 20 in Chisinau
  • 8 stations in the Southern region
