Electricity consumption increased in the first 10 days of December. Authorities are meeting demand in the Romanian electricity market, where prices are higher than last month. They are urging people to use electricity more efficiently.
According to the enterprise, from December 1-10, 2023, Moldova purchased about 96 thousand MWh of electricity from imports, mainly from Romania and the Cuciurgan power plant. In the same period this year, the purchase increased to approximately 110 thousand MWh, 15% more than in 2023.
In December 2024, Energocom plans to purchase around 463 thousand MWh for the right-bank consumption. About 37% of this electricity will come from Cuciurgan, and deliveries in the first 10 days of the month slightly exceeded the agreed schedule. The cost of electricity from the left bank of the Dniester is 66 USD/MWh.

“One-third of the required electricity—about 150 thousand MWh—will be purchased on the Romanian OPCOM exchange and from other partners in Moldova, Romania, and Ukraine. Another 22,320 MWh (equivalent to a 30 MWh band—24/7) will come from the Cernavoda power plant in Romania. The amount of electricity procured from Nuclearelectrica is up in December by a 10 MWh band compared to the previous month. The price of energy from Nuclearelectrica remains preferential for the Republic of Moldova, capped by an emergency ordinance at 400 RON/MWh or 80 EUR/MWh,” Energocom officials said.
Local district heating plants in Chisinau and Balti will generate 115,400 MWh (about 25%), while renewable energy plants will contribute approximately 6,400 MWh (1.4%).
