The Republic of Moldova joined the European trusted list of electronic signature providers, granting legal recognition in the EU to documents digitally signed in Moldova. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization Doina Nistor confirmed that Moldova will align its electronic signature standards with those of the EU starting this fall, IPN reports.
During a joint press conference with Henna Virkkunen, Executive Vice President of the European Commission for Technological Sovereignty, Security, and Democracy, Minister Nistor announced the launch of the mutual recognition process of electronic signatures between Moldova and the European Union. “From this autumn, Moldova’s electronic signature will comply with European standards,” she stated.
Moldova began recognizing EU electronic signatures in 2021. According to official data, more than 300,000 Moldovan citizens currently use digital signatures.
